SHPRESA BEÇAJ, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was
born in Kukes, in 1961. She is married and has two children.
Chief Justice Beçaj received a Law Degree from The University of
Tirana, Faculty of Law in 1983. She served as a Chief-Clerk at
the District Court of Gramsh. In 1985 was appointed Legal
Adviser at the District Court of Gramsh. From 1985 till 1990
served as a Judge at the District Court of Gramsh. From
1990-1994 was a Judge at the District Court of Tirana, and from
1994-2004 was a Judge at the Court of Appeal of Tirana. From
2004-2006 was a Member of the High Council of Justice, a
position from which she resigned after the entering into force
of the Law “On prevention of conflicts of interests in the
exercise of public functions”. In 2004 she followed and
successfully completed a post-graduation course for judges.
Chief Justice Beçaj has participated in several national and
international training activities organized in various field of
law.
The President of the Republic, by the Decree no.4156, dated
March 23, 2004, nominated her member of the Supreme Court of
Albania.
The President of the Republic, by the Decrees no. 5709, dated
May 08, 2008, honored her with “Naim Frashëri” Golden Award.
The President of the Republic, by the Decree no.5913, dated
October 08, 2008, nominated her Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court of Albania.
She is ex-officio, Chairman of the National Judicial Conference,
Member of the High Council of Justice, Chairman of the Board of
the Albanian Magistrates’ School, and Chairman of the Board of
the Office for the Administration of Judicial Budget.
